In addition to the development of new RES projects, PE Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) also looks at other possibilities such as the use of hydrogen, as well as the long-term prospect of nuclear energy, because nuclear power plants have potential to additionally secure the power system in a situation where thermal power plants are withdrawn as base energy, said Dusan Zivkovic, acting CEO of EPS at the Jahorina Economic Forum.

As reported by EPS, he added that the construction of the reversible hydroelectric power plant in Bistrica will contribute to securing long-term energy stability in Serbia, as this strategic production facility will bring the necessary additional security to the power system.

- The energy crisis as a priority has imposed the issue of energy security, and precisely because of this, the basic tenet of development for every country will be the energy security. Considering the growing needs and interest in investing in renewable energy sources, RHPP Bistrica, along with RHPP Bajina Basta, will balance out the, already diversified, Serbian energy sector with a greater participation of energy from the sun, wind and potentially other sources - emphasized Zivkovic at the Regional Energy Market panel.
